Gundogan Area Guide

Gundogan is without a doubt, one of Turkey’s rising star villages. Sitting on the western coast in among other towns and villages of the Bodrum peninsula, approximately 4,000 residents have bought property in Gundogan, of which many are Turks from big, bustling cities who want a summer retreat offering a much slower pace of life.

Only a few foreign tourists visit Gundogan, but from June to September, Turkish holidaymakers temporarily boost the population count.

Sitting halfway between the upmarket resorts of Yalikavak and Golturkbuku, its name means sunrise, but for many, it is the sweet scent of oranges from the orchards that reflect the true nature and character of Gundogan.

The centre of the village formerly called Farilya keeps a rural, traditional charm but as to be expected from a coastal resort, the seaside is the social meeting point of the community.

Things to Do in Gundogan

Although summer days are scorching, the constant breeze alleviates the temperatures and swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing are favourite activities for young and old. The horse-shaped bay also offers a variety of water sports for the more energetic residents and holidaymakers including scuba diving, wind and kite surfing as well as jet ski and fishing.

Anyone who tires of the beach has access to many walking trails and ruins in the surrounding hillsides. Gundogan maintains a low-key atmosphere. However, anyone wanting to kick it up a notch should visit Yalikavak, just 15 minutes away.

The town has a quaint old sector and a new marina with upmarket restaurants and shops that are the crème de la crème of the Turkish Riviera. The upmarket theme also continues in Golturkbuku resort, just ten minutes’ drive in the opposite direction.

Otherwise for everything and anything including an extensive range of shopping and nightlife choices, Bodrum town centre, on the other side of the peninsula is 30 minutes’ drive away. It is also home to the most popular attractions of the peninsula, which are Bodrum castle and the Underwater Museum.

Naturally, as a seaside location, the nightlife in Gundogan means grabbing a front row seat, in one of the many seaside restaurants. Serving a variety of fresh fish and seafood, as well as Turkish cuisine, the protocol focuses on sit down meals, with good company, fine wine and a fantastic view of the sun setting over the Aegean.

The Property Portfolio of Gundogan

Potential buyers of property for sale in Gundogan, who want to experience Turkish charm, will be pleased with what is on offer. During recent years, new build homes have grabbed the eyes of millionaires but otherwise, away from the coastal line, reasonably priced, but still, modern apartments ensure the Gundogan offers an affordable portfolio.

One area of Gundogan that is seeing rising popularity is Kucukbuk, meaning “Small Bay” on the outskirts. Prices of Gundogan property in this area offer excellent value for money per square meterage, and there are usually some good bargains close to the beach.

Foreign facilities and amenities are scarce in Kucukbuk because of the lack of international tourists, but what it does offer up is Turkish vibes of seaside living. Otherwise, luxury villas for sale in Gundogan, designed by esteemed architects offer the upmarket version of a Bodrum lifestyle.
