Koycegiz is a peaceful town that sits around a huge lake, totally unspoilt by mass tourism, probably because it off the beaten track and has no beach. Life is centred around the lake with traditional tea gardens and eateries and a few relaxing bars with occasional traditional live music.

The lake is the source of the Dalyan river that flows through Dalyan making its way to the Mediterranean sea at Iztuzu Beach.

The area does have a small expat community, mainly British who gather at the lake for a chat and often organise charity events for local animal and children's charities.
