The logo for of Istanbul 2020 Champions League Final was officially introduced by UEFA before the “Champions League” group draw. The logo which was designed by artist and illustrator Tolga TARHAN is based on an abstract depiction of the city at sunset. Inspired by the rich colors of the sky and the vibrant lights of the city, the visuals feature historical buildings such as the Galata Tower, the Bosporus Bridge and the Aqueduct.
It had been announced by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin that Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium would host the 2020 Champions League final.
In 2005, the 76,000-capacity stadium had hosted a fantastic challenge between Liverpool and Milan on which occasion Liverpool came back from 3-0 down at halftime to draw 3-3 with AC Milan and win a penalty shoot-out.
The stadium will be built allover again and the current capacity of 75 thousand 145 spectators will rise to 92,208. With the new project, the effect of the wind taken from the back of the goals will be minimized and its effect to the game will be reduced.
Turkey has hosted several similar finals in recent years and done a good job as appreciated by the authorities. It is a fact that football is a very popular sport in this country. In 17 May 2000 Galatasaray, the prominent Turkish football team beat Arsenal in the UEFA Cup final match to bring the cup to Turkey. That was the greatest victory of Turkish football together with the third place Turkey’s national squad won in the 2002 Fifa Cup Final.
