NEWS Turkey's exports increase to US $ 225.4 billion in 2021

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the foreign trade figures of Turkey for 2021. Exports in 2021 increased to US $ 225.4 billion by 32.9 percent, compared to last year.

Erdogan stated in his speech that exports had a serious contribution to growth, adding they had revised their export targets for 2022 to US $ 250 billion.

The export figures for December 2021 and the data for 2021 were announced in a meeting held with the participation of President Erdogan, Minister of Trade Mehmet Muş and Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).

Accordingly Turkey’s exports for 2021 increased by 32.9 percent compared to last year to 225.4 billion dollars. Our “foreign trade deficit” decreased by 7.8 percent to US$ 45.9 billion, in 2021. The ratio of exports to imports also increased to 83.1 percent. Imports totaled to $ 271.3 billion in 2021.

In his speech at said meeting, Erdogan stated that exports had a serious contribution to growth. Noting that the economy had reached pre-epidemic levels with its dynamic structure, Erdogan also made the following statements: “The economic data for the last 2 years clearly prove Turkey's success. Turkey has become one of the two countries that closed 2020 with growth. Exports were the driving force in the growth seen in the third quarter of the year. We have increased the number of countries which we trade with using TL every day.

EXPORT TARGETS

Erdogan went on to say, “We are revising our 2022 targets to US$ 250 billion. In order to reach the surplus position in our current-account”, we have set our 2022 economic growth target at 5 percent”
