Turkey continues to take necessary steps as a result of the increasing potential in incoming tourism.
Antalya city has been enjoying a substantial increasing demand from Middle East countries as well as visitors from western countries like UK, Germany and those in Scandinavia.
Taking this trend into consideration the administration has already started projects to provide improved travelling conditions for visitors to be hosted in the country and started new projects.
Within this frame work West Antalya Airport, which is planned to become the third airport, is scheduled to be completed by 2022.
Participating in the opening ceremony of "Low Level Wind Breaking Warning System" which will contribute to flight safety in Antalya, Vice President Fuat Oktay has noted that the government aims to complete the new airport to be built by 2022. Antalya already has two airports, namely Antalya and Gazipaşa airports.
The Vice President also said "Antalya Airport which had a passenger traffic of 10 million 371 thousand in 2003, reached 31 million 566 thousand, last year. The number of tourists coming to Antalya in 2018 was 12.4 million. We started to work for the construction of an airport called West Antalya Airport. We hope to complete the airport by 2022 and hope to put it in service”.
Mr. Oktay said; “Moreover, Turkey is the country with the largest number of flights to international destinations. During the AK Party government period, we have increased the number of our international flights from abroad 60 to 316. We rank number 1 in the world, in this regard. We have increased the number of airports from 22 to 56 in 16 years. The total number of our aircraft was 150 in 2002. Now it has reached more than 500. The turnover of the aviation sector has increased from 2.2 billion dollars to 25 billion dollars”.
