It is reported that Turkey and Pakistan are considering a plan to make it easier for citizens of both countries to obtain dual citizenship, a significant boost in their relations.
The plan was announced at a meeting between Pakistani Interior Minister and Turkish ambassador to Pakistan, yesterday. The Turkish ambassador on behalf of his government proposed both countries sign an agreement to allow dual citizenship for their citizens. It is also reported that parties expect to reach a common conclusion soon
Topics such as development of bilateral relations and military cooperation in particular were also addressed.
Experts comment that if citizens of both Pakistan and Turkey could obtain the citizenship and dual passports of each other's countries, it would mark the largest bilateral move in the history of both nations and contribute significantly to their already strong relationship. In fact, earlier this month Pakistan extended time to Turkey to deliver domestically made T129 attack helicopters, which was delayed due to U.S. sanctions on Turkey. In May last year, Pakistan had added Turkey to its visa-free travel list, leading to an effort on tourism and trade between the two.
It has been observed lately that Pakistani nationals who would like to make property investments abroad prefer Turkey for their property investments and Istanbul, in particular. In fact, it has also been reported that Pakistani nationals take the first place among foreigners who buy property in Istanbul.
