The inauguration ceremony for Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) which has been under construction by Turkey and Azerbaijan for 3 years was held on 12th June 2018. President Erdoğan attended the ceremony in Eskişehir and made a speech addressing participants.
With said project it will be possible to carry the natural gas produced in Shah Deniz-2 gas field in the Caspian Sea and other fields in the south of the Caspian Sea to Turkey first and then to Europe.
President Erdogan who spoke at the opening ceremony of the giant project stated that TANAP would create employment for 10,000 people.
The President also shared the following: “Our understanding that energy is a platform of business unity and not conflict is seen once again thanks to TANAP project. TANAP which is the most recent fruit of our common vision, also heralds other new projects that we will put into operation.
Erdogan also mentioned that TANAP had an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year and 6 billion of this capacity would be used in Turkey with the rest to be transported to Europe.
He went on to say "We plan to increase the capacity of TANAP to 22 billion meters according to demand and then to 31 billion meters with additional investments." said Erdogan.
Turkey's political and economic stability maintained in the last 16 years had a very important role in the realization of TANAP in such a short time.
With TANAP Turkey has secured a critical position as a country playing an important role in every stage of the chain covering the process from the manufacturer to the final consumer.
