NEWS Streaming giant Netflix decides to open offices in Istanbul

According to a statement from Netflix, the streaming giant that has 195 million members worldwide has decided to open an office in Turkey. Reed Hastings, Founder and co-CEO of Netflix, has said: "Turkey is a very valuable country for us with its rich culture and long-established storytelling tradition. Therefore, we are proud to open an office in Istanbul, which is a magnificent city.”

This step is expected to be a means for the successful productions produced in Turkey to circulate more powerfully round the globe. The office, which is planned to house Netflix's Turkey team, will open its doors in the second half of 2021 and bring with it new employment opportunities.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy who made a statement in regards said: “Our cinema and TV series sector, which has experienced great development in the last fifteen years in particular, has become one of the important tools of promotion and cultural diplomacy as well as its economic size. In this sense, I welcome the decision of a global company like Netflix to open an office in our country. I believe that the fact that TV series and films produced in Turkey can be viewed in 190 countries will make our sector more visible internationally and contribute to the development of film Tourism."

Reed Hastings, Founder and co-CEO of Netflix on the other hand said that Turkey was a very valuable country for them with its rich culture and long-established storytelling tradition. He also said “Therefore, we are proud to open an office in Istanbul, a magnificent city. This decision, which clearly demonstrates our commitment to Turkey, will contribute to the production of more Turkish productions that will be enjoyed around the world. We would like to thank our more than 3 million members and all stakeholders in Turkey for their support."

Currently, original and licensed productions produced in Turkey can be viewed with subtitles and dubbing options in over 30 different languages. Users from around the world can access the collection via netflix.com/Made-In-Turkey. Netflix has also recently announced it will have 10 new original productions made in Turkey. The streaming giant has ordered two seasons of “The Gift” – another Turkish supernatural drama – and has commissioned the Turkish series, “Love 101.”
