Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the inauguration ceremony of the Great Camlica Mosque in Istanbul, on Friday (03rd May 2019). The Camlica mosque, which has a combination of Ottoman and Seljuk architectural style, was built on the Asian side of the city.
Speaking at the grand opening ceremony of the mosque President Erdogan said, “There is no greater pride than serving this sacred city. We feel the happiness of every moment, every day we have been serving Istanbul for a quarter of a century. We will continue to add beauty to Istanbul's beauty.
For lovers who have lost their heart to this city, it does not matter where they are. Posts and authority are of no value for Istanbul lovers. We will continue to further serve this city with our important investments and projects”.
The President also noted: “The Great Camlica Mosque, which is the largest mosque in Turkey ever, is a social complex of buildings at the same time and not only a mosque. It has exhibition and conference halls and a Turkish Islam Works Museum as well.
I'd like to share some of its prominent features. This building can be easily seen from every point of Istanbul. It is built on an area of 57,500 square meters with 6 minarets. The main dome which is 72 meters high refers to 72 nations living in Istanbul. 65,000 believers can worship in this mosque at the same time.
Büyük Çamlıca Mosque will be an occasion for the development of architects and new masters who will carry our heritage of civilization further. We will continue to struggle Istanbul by saying “He who works will love will not get tired”.
