Sabiha Gökçen Airport (ISG) which is located in the Asian part of Istanbul increased its performance substantially in the first half of 2018. The airport received 16.2 million passengers in first 6 months which corresponds to an increase of 12 percent as compared to same period last year.
ISG international airport which is 2nd largest in Turkey and 13th in Europe in terms of passenger numbers reached double-digit growth figures in the first 6 months. In January-June period last year 14.4 million passengers used the airport while this year this figure rose to 16.2 million passengers in the same period. Accordingly, passenger growth in the first 6 months was 12 percent.
In the first six months of this year, the number of international passengers increased by 13 percent from the previous year to 5.2 million while the number of domestic passengers increased by 12 percent to reach approximately 11 million. In the same period, the number of aircraft landing and departing from the airport increased by 7 percent to 106,631.
On the other hand, a total of 2.8 million passengers used ISG airport in June 2018 corresponding to an increase of 12 percent in number of international passengers.
The management has made a statement saying the double digit growth results for the first half of the year were very pleasing and also added:
"Our goal is to maintain this growth figure at the end of 2018. We will have put into service our domestic lines expansion plan which is one of our three main projects in July 2018. Thus, our terminal capacity will go up from 33 million to 41 million passengers, yearly. Together with our increased capacity, we will continue to work day and night in order to be able to serve better and sustain this growth. "
