The first driverless metro on the European side of Istanbul has started its journey between Mecidiyekoy and Mahmutbey. Said metro line will provide free service for 10 days.
The M7 Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro which is the first stage of the Kabatas Mecidiyeköy Mahmutbey line and has a capacity of 140 thousand passengers per hour passes through 6 districts. The line connecting Gaziosmanpasa, Sultangazi, Esenler, Bağcılar, Kağıthane and Şişli districts, where about 3 million people live, will carry 400 thousand passengers by making 352 trips per day.
Metro Istanbul AŞ General Manager Özgür Soy, spoke at the ceremony held at the command center in Tekstilkent due to the start of the flights and connected by phone to IBB President EKREM IMAMOGLU who is having covid-19 treatment at hospital.
Imamoglu thanked those who worked in the construction of the line, wished that the driverless metro, which can quickly and comfortably carry 140 thousand passengers per hour by crossing 6 districts, would be favorable to Istanbulites. Imamoglu also reminded that the line will provide free service for the first 10 days.
The line, which is integrated with other public transportation vehicles at many points, can serve 70 thousand Istanbulites per hour in one direction. The line, which will be served by a total of 80 trains, has the capacity to carry 2,160 passengers at a time.
