The 1st Review and Evaluation Commission meeting will be held on November 28th to finalize the EIA (ÇED, meaning environmental impact assessment) report of the KANAL ISTANBUL Project, which was announced by President Erdogan in 2011 and is known as "crazy project" by the public.
The project will start from Küçükçekmece Lake on the European side of Istanbul and pass through Şahintepe Neighborhood and continue along the Sazlıdere Dam Basin and reach the Black Sea from the east of Terkos Lake.
All technical works in terms of engineering have been completed regarding said project. The meeting to be arranged in this context will be attended by officials of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the officials of institutions and organizations in the EIA Review Evaluation Commission.
Opinions of officials from said institutions/organizations about the report will be noted
Thereafter, a decision will be made about the final form of the EIA report about the project Istanbul, thus, accomplishing the EIA process of the project.
The existing infrastructure conceptual displacement works of other institutions and organizations in the project route, which will be 45 kilometers in length, have been prepared in agreement with the relevant institutions. The project with an estimated cost of TL 75 billion is planned to be accomplished via public and private cooperation model.
Within the scope of the project, a total of 2 railway crossings and 2 metro crossings are envisaged, including 7 road bridges, one bridge and an underground crossing.
