“Şehit Fethi Bey” Park, the largest recreation area of the region was opened with a grand ceremony with the participation of thousands of citizens on 26th July 2018.
Citizens flocked to the opening of the huge recreation area built by Fethiye Municipality at 19:23 hours with reference to the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923.
Mayor Saatci who made a speech at the grand opening said they removed all the barriers between rich and poor by making this opportunity available to everybody rather than to rich only who could afford to buy expensive villas planned to be built on the area by Toki. The mayor said they had fought hard to win the case despite lawsuits filed against the municipality and thus succeeded to protect the rights and benefits of ordinary citizens.
What's in the park?
Within the area of 120 thousand square meters, 68 thousand square meters of modern landscaping realized by the Municipality of Fethiye drew much attention.
In the park, built in an area of 68,000 m² there is a 800 meters long treadmill, 650 meter coastal road, 800 meter bicycle path, 5,000 m² childrens’ playground, viewing terraces, wind and water mills, 126 kinds of plants, plant demonstration areas, biological natural ponds and open air libraries.
The park also includes basketball courts, toilets, fitness stations, a giant adventure park, disabled benches and bridges. In addition, the Turkish Garden, the Mediterranean garden consisting of plants grown in the Mediterranean region, olive trees over 100 years old, sunset sunshine, were also included in the project.
