Esenboğa is being modernized with a third runway and new service buildings. The goal is to reach a capacity of 30 million passengers by the first quarter of 2025.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the first phase of capacity expansion works at Esenboğa Airport is nearing completion. He stated that the airport’s passenger capacity would be increased to 30 million and that the third runway and new service buildings would be operational by the first quarter of 2025.
First Phase of Modernization Almost Complete
Minister Uraloğlu noted that 98% of the work at Esenboğa Airport has been completed. He emphasized that the new third runway is crucial to accommodate the increasing passenger and aircraft traffic. "We are transforming our airport into a facility worthy of our capital, Ankara. We are in the final stages of constructing the new runway," he said.
New Goal: The First Quarter of 2025
He also mentioned that the construction of new service buildings is nearly finished, including the technical block, ARFF station, special-purpose vehicle garage, and flight control hangar. "We plan to put these facilities into operation by the first quarter of 2025," Uraloğlu added.
Terminal Expansion
Minister Uraloğlu pointed out that the current capacity of Esenboğa Airport is no longer sufficient. He stated that in the second phase of works, the terminal building would be expanded by 40,000 square meters. With the new runway and the expanded terminal, the airport will be able to better handle the increase in passenger traffic.
Aviation Investments Continue
The minister stressed, "With our aviation investments, we are making it easier for the public to access air travel. While we are building new airports, we are also continuing to modernize existing facilities." He emphasized that projects in the sector will continue without slowing down.
With these new investments, Esenboğa Airport will further strengthen its position as the gateway to the world for Ankara.
