NEWS The Number of Passengers at Istanbul's Airports Reaches Record Levels This Year

From January to July 2024, a total of 69,337,172 people used the airports in Istanbul. This figure represents an increase of 5,915,118 passengers compared to the same period last year. As the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have subsided, the global aviation industry is recovering, and airports in Turkey are also benefiting from this resurgence.

During the January-July period, 45,688,593 passengers passed through Istanbul Airport. The airport handled 9,924,954 domestic passengers and 35,763,639 international passengers. Compared to the same period last year, domestic passengers decreased by 4%, while international passengers increased by 9%. Overall, the total number of passengers increased by 6%.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport also experienced significant growth in the first seven months of the year. The number of domestic passengers was recorded at 11,340,737, and the number of international passengers was 12,307,842. With these figures, Sabiha Gökçen Airport saw an increase of 3,272,489 passengers compared to the previous year, marking a 16% rise in total passenger numbers. There was an 18% increase in domestic passengers and a 14% increase in international passengers.

Along with the growth in passenger numbers, there was also an increase in flights. In the January-July period this year, a total of 299,662 flights were operated at Istanbul Airport, compared to 289,962 flights last year, representing an approximately 3% increase.

At Sabiha Gökçen Airport, flights increased by 7.5%. A total of 139,226 flights were operated, compared to 129,387 flights during the same period last year, indicating that the airport maintained its growth momentum.
