Amazon which has already started serving Turkish clients through its German website has decided to open an office in Istanbul, Turkey believing this market deserves much more to be offered. It was reported that the company, run by Jeff Bezos had set up an office in Istanbul and the staff had already begun to work and they had started negotiations with the authorities on their future plans.
Based on reports, the name of the local company to serve the Turkish market is "Amazon Turkey Management and Support Services Ltd." and it located at central Besiktas neighborhood, in the mega town of Istanbul with a population of approximately 20 million people. However the Istanbul office will be dependent on its European affiliate that is Luxembourg-based Amazon Europe Core which is reported to be the controlling shareholder of the company. The report further says that Amazon has plans for the future regarding acquisitions in Turkey, as well. It is noteworthy to mention that internet sales or e-commerce in Turkey has shown some remarkable progress in a very short time and in 2016, the share of e-commerce in Turkish trade was recorded to be 3.5 percent with a volume of e-commerce at TL 17.5 billion ($5 billion).
The US internet giant founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994, had pioneered in the retail sales sector on the internet many years ago and paved the way to many similar companies to include ALI BABA of China which has become another retail giant on the web.
