Turkey's Second Largest Runway Inaugurated - Capable of Handling Wide-Body Aircraft

The second runway of Sabiha Gökçen Airport, inaugurated with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is designed to allow the landing of large aircraft.
With a flight duration of 4 hours, Turkey, connected to 67 countries with a population of 1.4 billion people, a trade volume of $8.6 trillion, continues to be the world's transit hub in the field of aviation.
A 91-meter Air Traffic Control Tower, in service for a year, accompanies the new 3,540-meter-long and 60-meter-wide second runway, capable of accommodating the widest-bodied aircraft.
Adjacent to the runway, three parallel taxiways, measuring 3520 meters, 3000 meters, and 2400 meters in length, along with a 650,000-square-meter central apron with a capacity for 62 aircraft and a 300,000-square-meter cargo apron for approximately 40 aircraft, have been realized.
Longer than the existing runways by 540 meters
The newly constructed second runway is 540 meters longer than the existing first runway.
Roadworks carried out locally
To facilitate the passage of the runway over the TEM highway and D100 Connection road and to increase the capacity of the Sabiha Gökçen Airport road, a 1520-meter-long double-tube TEM Connection Tunnel was constructed. Additionally, a 1636-meter-long Kemiklidere Rehabilitation Tunnel, a 960-meter-long road tunnel for access to cargo areas, and an 838-meter-long central apron tunnel were built.
