The tourism capital Antalya has set a new record during the holiday season, welcoming 1 million tourists in 18 days. The city, which broke the 4 million tourist record on June 1st, surpassed 5 million tourists with the opening of the season and the holiday rush. Between June 1st and 18th, 1 million people arrived in the city. Compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists visiting Antalya increased by 15%.
According to reports in the media, tourism professionals noted the high demand for the city and stated that hotel occupancy rates had exceeded 100% due to the holiday season, with this level of demand expected to continue until the end of the season. President of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (AKTOB), emphasized that the number of tourists in Antalya had surpassed 4 million on June 1st. "With the start of the season and the holiday rush, we surpassed 5 million tourists as of the day before yesterday. This is a new record for our city," he said.
Number of Russian Tourists Surpasses Germans
Highlighting the recovery in the number of Russian tourists, he also noted the following; "Although Germans led the first five months, the number of Russian tourists in May surpassed the Germans. Achieving this number despite the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War is a great success. The interest of Russian tourists continues in June as well." He noted that the number of tourists coming to Antalya this year is expected to exceed 17 million, setting a new record.
