For the formal process held after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in England, 1 million 310 thousand branches of cloves were exported to England in 8 days. The sector believes that the number of exports will reach 2 million by the end of the month.
After the death of Queen Elizabeth II in England, the shipment continued rapidly from Antalya and Isparta, the most important cut flower production region of Turkey, to be used in mourning and funeral ceremony programs organised in England.
Since the death of Queen Elizabeth on September 8, there has been a 90 per cent increase in demand from cut florists in Antalya from the flower sector in the UK.
1 MILLION 310 THOUSAND BRANCHES IN 8 DAYS
With the expectation that the mobility will continue until the end of the month after the 10-day mourning and funeral ceremonies starting from September 9 and the burial program on September 19, the planned shipment of 1.5 million branches in the first stage was increased to 2 million branches. On September 9- 16, the amount of flowers sent by air cargo in the 8 days between September reached 1 million 310 thousand branches. The sector, which has revenue of 3.5 million TL so far, expects to reach 2 million branches easily by the end of the month and more than 5 million TL revenue.
END OF THE MONTH TARGET IS 2 MILLION BRANCHES
A member of the Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) Assembly and the Professional Committee of Cut Flowers and Ornamental Plants said according to the data received from the Central Anatolian Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Association, the amount of cut flowers exported to the UK had reached 1 million 310 thousand branches. The same person said: “We work overtime at weekends as well, and we estimate that the number of flowers sent on Monday will reach 1.5 million branches.” He also noted that they had experienced an increase of 110 percent compared to the same period last year.
